John Fitzgerald is one of Ireland’s leading equine, sporting and portrait artists, living and working in his native county Meath where he was born in 1976.

He studied Industrial Design in Letterkenny RTC and in the University of Wales and it was during this time that he developed a strong understanding of drawing and design.

John has carried out commissions for many leading horse owners and trainers and he has painted some of our top equine heroes as well as portraits of leading jockeys such as Lester Piggot and A.P. McCoy.

In 2018 John was commissioned to paint one of the world’s most famous racehorses – Shergar, for a BBC documentary titled ‘Searching for Shergar.’ This extraordinary opportunity was a massive achievement which brought John’s work to a worldwide audience.
