We’ve been busy at the Lavelle Art Gallery of late and you can read about that here on our gallery blog
There hasn’t been a lot of time for painting, but I did manage to finish this landscape today. I started it a few weeks ago so it’s been on the back burner for a while. I’ve called it ‘Everything Moves’ because this is how I see the land – always moving, shifting, changing. Most of this painting was completed in one sitting as I wanted to infuse the piece with as much energy as possible to reflect the subject. This is the first photo I took (below) shortly after the first sitting.
I’ve used the paint thickly, applying it with brushes of various sizes. There are a lot of strong shapes – the triangular mountain, a circular pool to the left and the strong diagonal red. I’ve exaggerated the scene this was taken from, so that the main features have been simplified or abstracted. Only the sky is unfinished.
The finished painting above. I’m looking forward to getting back to more work next week once the dust has settled after our ‘relaunch’ party. I’ll post photos and news from the coming week end on our gallery website at www.lavelleartgallery.ie
